High Performance Teams

A Framework for Building Teams That Perform

High Performing Teams Are Built Through Behaviour

High performing teams are not defined by talent alone, but by how they work together. The High Performance Teams Framework provides a structured way to strengthen the behaviours, disciplines, and conditions that enable teams to perform consistently. Human Synergistics uses this framework to help teams improve collaboration, decision making, and accountability, especially when it matters most.

At the core, team performance is a behavioural system shaped by how people communicate, challenge and build on ideas, make decisions, respond under pressure, and take ownership for outcomes. When these behaviours are constructive, teams perform at a high level. When they become defensive or inconsistent, performance suffers regardless of individual capability.

Why Teams Struggle

Unclear purpose or priorities
Ineffective decision making
Lack of alignment or follow through
Avoidance of difficult conversations
Over reliance on hierarchy
Learned patterns of behaviour that reinforce how the team operates

A Practical Framework for Team Performance

The HPT Framework provides a practical model for understanding and improving how teams perform. It focuses on a small number of critical disciplines that shape how teams operate, including clarity of purpose and direction, alignment on goals and what success looks like, effective execution of work, tracking progress and performance, and continuously evolving through reflection and adaptation. These disciplines are supported by enabling conditions such as individual capability and mindset, shared operating principles, strong accountability, and clarity around key interdependencies with stakeholders, customers, and others. Together, these elements create the conditions for sustained team performance.

Turning Insight Into Sustained Team Performance

Together, these elements create the conditions for sustained team performance by helping teams understand how they operate and giving them practical ways to improve. This work goes beyond theory, focusing on real behaviour, real conversations, and real shifts in how teams perform day to day.

Understanding Team Behaviour

How teams perform is shaped by how they solve problems and make decisions. Using the Group Styles Inventory, we help teams see how they generate ideas, evaluate options, build on thinking, and reach decisions, creating a shared view of what is working and what needs to change.

Our Approach

We apply the HPT Framework through behavioural diagnostics, structured conversations, facilitated reflection, experiential learning, and practical development planning. This helps teams move beyond discussion and build new ways of working in practice.

Experiential Development

Teams develop most effectively when they experience their behaviour in action. Through simulations and structured exercises, teams see how they operate under pressure, understand the impact of their behaviour, and experiment with more effective ways of working, creating a direct link between insight and performance.
